COURSE: WENV 417 Environmental Restoration Project Management CourseOBJECTIVE: For each student to be familiar with the methods, processes, and techniques of environmental restoration projects and project management. DESCRIPTION: This course delineates project management for the environmental restoration process from problem identification through completion of the remedial action. Specific topics include legal aspects, project management principles, dispute resolution and negotiating strategies, AFRIMS, remedy selection and decision documents, community involvement/community relations, site characterization, GIS/TIS integration, relative risk and risk plus factors, peer review, AFCEE initiatives, ACOE initiatives, FFERDC, TAPP, property transfer issues, environmental justice, clean-up technologies, natural/cultural resource damage assessment. Teaching methods include informal lectures, case studies, exercises, and guided discussions. PRIORITY ENROLLMENT: Students needing ENV 021, Introduction to Environmental Restoration Program, to attend this course will be given priority in the ENV 021 course immediately preceding ENV 417. PRIMARY AUDIENCE: Restoration Project Manager, BRAC Environmental Coordinator, Restoration Program Manager SECONDARY AUDIENCE: Restoration Program Manager, Technical Program Manager, Restoration Site Project Manager GRADE: Officers: Yes (O3-O5); Enlisted: No; Civilians: Yes (GS7-GS13) PREREQUISITES: Bachelor's degree in engineering or other appropriate related field SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Personnel must have a minimum of 3 months experience in a section responsible for environmental restoration work and must have attended ENV 021 prior to attending this course. Individuals with at least 18 months experience working in the environmental restoration area who have not attended ENV 021 may apply for a waiver to this prerequisite.
