Combating Weapons of Mass Destruction
Current as of: 04/25/2014

Degree Type: MS

Welcome to the Combating Weapons of Mass Destruction Program housed within the Department of Engineering Physics. This multidisciplinary curriculum is focused on educating tomorrow's scientific leaders in Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) technologies by providing a rigorous, STEM-centric education in the areas of detection, forensics, and effects of CBRN agents. This area of study is not only of interest to the US military, but also law enforcement, emergency response agencies, private industry, healthcare systems, and public health organizations. The realization that there is a shortage and critical need for technically based professionals specializing in CBRN has recently come to the forefront, driven the need to develop this cadre, and establish the degree offering at AFIT.

The academic foundation of our program is anchored in traditional courses in chemistry, physics, biology and engineering. Through the curricular offerings, graduates will gain an overview of all three subspecialties and a focus area of study in one. I invite you to review the AFIT Graduate Catalog for program information. Innovative and applied research is the focus of the graduate experience here at AFIT. Through the execution of research, students not only gain knowledge and develop a critical skill set, but also provide solutions to customers by addressing their technical challenges.

As you browse our website, review our curricular offerings; evaluate the credentials and publications and research interests of our faculty, and our laboratory facilities. We believe that you will see that this program is characterized by robust academics and solution focused research, targeted at being a leader in this area. I invite your questions, and look forward to discussing our program with you. Thank you for your interest in AFIT and the CWM program.
