Faculty and Staff Award Definitions

Board of Visitor Awards

General Bernard A. Schriever Award –This award is given in recognition of a person who advances aerospace power, technology, doctrine, or the Air Force as a profession.

Professor Ezra Kotcher Award –This award is given in recognition of an individual who has made a significant, substantive contribution to curriculum or instruction development within AFIT.

Colonel Charles A. Stone Award –This award is given in recognition of an individual who accomplished specific achievements that furthered the AFIT mission. Emphasis is on new, innovative efforts or approaches involving demonstrated personal leadership.

Gage H. Crocker Outstanding Professor Award – This award is given to the individual who made the most significant contribution to the AFIT mission during the preceding 1 Jan – 31 Dec period. Consideration shall include excellence in teaching, curriculum development, educational innovation, consulting, research and any other achievements which enhance or contribute to maintaining the excellence of AFIT programs

AFIT and Graduate School Awards

Lt Col Charles P. Brothers, Jr. Outstanding Volunteer Service Award – This award is given to the faculty or staff member of the Graduate School of Engineering and Management demonstrating the most outstanding volunteer service to the local, national, or international community.

Field Grade Officer of the Quarter/Year – This award is given to military personnel in the rank of 0-4 (Major) through 0-5 (Lieutenant Colonel) based upon their performance during the rating period in the areas of leadership and job performance in their primary duty, significant contributions to the Air Force mission, and base/community involvement.

Company Grade Officer of the Quarter/Year – This award is given to military personnel in the rank of 0-1 (2nd Lieutenant) through 0-3 (Captain) based upon their performance during the rating period in the areas leadership and job performance in their primary duty, significant self-improvement, and base/community involvement.

Civilian Category I, II, or III of the Quarter/Year – This award is given to civilian personnel (category defined by their pay grade), based upon their performance during the rating period in the areas of job performance in their primary duty, significant self-development, and base/community involvement.

Unsung Hero Award of the Quarter – This award is given to military and DoD civilians based upon each directorate/school's internal criteria. The Department of Operational Sciences awards this degree at appropriate times to recognize individual significant contributions to the department as a whole.
