Colonel Schuld is Dean of The Civil Engineer School at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT). As Dean, he leads 40 staff and faculty in developing and delivering civil engineer and environmental professional continuing education in support of U.S. air and space forces. The Civil Engineering School provides the Civil Engineer technical and management education from badge granting accessions to Civil Engineer commanders. The Civil Engineer School serves several thousand students annually through resident, satellite broadcasts, on-site courses, and on-site seminars by delivering job-related education to the workplace. Colonel Schuld arrived to The Civil Engineer School from Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, PA.
Colonel Schuld entered the Air Force in May 1979 upon graduation from the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado. He began development of expeditionary and contingency engineering background by first serving as Chief, Readiness and Logistics, Hahn AB Germany where he deployed twice to Turkey leading a team of civil engineers for OPERATION CORONET RIDER. After Germany, Colonel Schuld worked in Construction Management at Maxwell AFB Alabama. He received a Master of Science in Engineering Management from AFIT. He remained at AFIT to teach the Contingency Engineering Course and run the Air Force Professional Continuing Education Program. Completing his AFIT duties, Colonel Schuld served at Osan AB ROK as the Chief Plans and Exercises for the 7th AF Civil Engineering Directorate. He went to the Air Staff to work the $1 billion Air Base Operability (ABO) Program. During his time on the Air Staff, Colonel Schuld led two beddown operability task forces for OPERATION DESERT STORM/SHIELD. During a 10-year break in service, he obtained a Masters in Computer Science and spent 8 years as assistant camp director at a Christian camp in the Sierra Mountains. Colonel Schuld returned to the Air Force in 2002 to the Air Force Civil Engineer Support Agency. During his tenure at AFCESA he worked on the Joint Service Installation Pilot Project, the Weapons of Mass Destruction Installation Training and Exercise Program, and laying the ground work to transition the Air Force emergency response system to the National Incident Management System. He served as Deputy Director, A-7, Al Udeid, Qatar providing base support to the Iraqi bases in OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. Colonel Schuld returned to Air Staff and served as the Branch Chief in Readiness, Housing, and Programs Divisions before deploying as the 332d Expeditionary Engineer Squadron Commander at Joint Base Balad Iraq.
