FACILITIES:
COMSL - Communications Simulation Lab

The Communications Simulation Laboratory (COMSL) contains state-of-the-art computing resources and OPNET software to support coursework and research experiments. The COMSL is used to introduce and reinforce simulation techniques for the design, development and management of communication systems. Current research partners supporting the COMSL include the Air Force Communications Agency, the National Security Agency (NSA), and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).
LISSARD - Laboratory for Information System Security/Assurance Research and Development

The Laboratory for Information System Security/Assurance Research and Development (LISSARD) is a stand-alone teaching and research laboratory. This laboratory is used to investigate computer virus growth and eradication, steganography, as well as the research and development of intrusion detection systems and cyber forensics. Current research partners include the AFIWC, the AFRL, and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.
CDN - Cyber Defense Network

The Cyber Defense Network is co-joined with LISSARD resources to support teaching and research. One of the uses of this network is to support the Cyber Defense Exercise (CDX). The CDX, administered by the NSA, is a project that allows both undergraduate and graduate students at the military service academies, the Naval Post Graduate School, and AFIT to gain real-life experience in the protection of critical computing resources. Through a set of operation attack scenarios spanning five days, students must manage the network under attack and respond appropriately to keep services available to the end-users.

WINS - Wireless Information Networking and Security

The Wireless Information Networking and Security (WINS) laboratory provides unique hands-on opportunities for students to investigate vulnerabilities associated with wireless communication systems. We are presently executing wireless local area network (WLAN) research projects investigating IEEE 802.11, Bluetooth, and diffused infrared system capabilities and vulnerabilities. Current research partners include the Presidential Airlift Squadron, the Air Force Information Warfare Center (AFIWC), and the NSA.
