We here at The Civil Engineer School were notified on 31 May that the Air Force had cancelled the majority of resident Professional Continuing Education (PCE) for the remainder of FY13. The majority of our resident courses fell into that category. Exempted were distance learning courses and initial skills or courses that involved upgrade training. There has been numerous questions concerning which courses will continue at the school. We are sending this email to hopefully answer that question.
The following resident courses will continue at the school during this fiscal year.
-WMGT 101: CE Basic Course – initial skills for civil engineer officers
-WMGT 427: Fire Emergency Services Superintendent Course – contained in CFETP requirements for 9-level
-WMGT 570: CE Superintendent Course – contained in CFETP requirements for 9-level
In addition we have numerous satellite and web courses that will continue as originally scheduled. Attached is a listing of courses that will continue through the remainder of the year. Some dates may shift slightly as we adjust to furlough and other constraints. Please have folks check our website or call if there are any questions on actual dates.
We are also commencing a detailed review of our resident courses to see what can be done within existing constraints to get as much of this education to the students through other means using available technology.
During times of transformation and reduced resources, education is essential to reduce learning curves and maintain high levels of productivity and performance. We will continue to do our best to provide the essential and relevant education necessary to the Civil Engineer career field whenever and wherever needed.
The AFIT Environmental Education Center (EEC), located in the Civil Engineer School at AFIT, supports environmental managers in obtaining education and training from all non-AFIT sources. EEC will suspend services effective 25 January 2013. The EEC is important to the AFIT base support mission, and AFIT is working with AFCEC to explore options to restore this service as
soon as possible. Changes to this status will be announced on the AFIT EEC site and eDASH (
https://eis.af.mil/cs/edash/default.aspx). This action does not affect the AFIT Civil Engineer School resident, satellite, or on-site
environmental courses.
