The 2008 Advanced Signatures Technology Symposium (ASTS) will be held at the National Ground Intelligence Center in Charlottesville, VA, 18-20 November 2008.
The annual Signatures symposiums are supported by the Signatures Support Program (SSP), formerly The National Signatures Program (NSP). The SSP is a joint, multi-agency venture initiated by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), to meet increased customer demands for signature data. The SSP’s overarching goal is to facilitate access to high-quality signatures for a diverse customer base. To do this, the SSP leverages the full spectrum of signature-related activities within the Department of Defense (DoD), the Intelligence Community (IC), Industry, and Academia. These activities include initial collection, processing, development, and detailed analysis. The program addresses a host of signature types, including acoustic, seismic, radio frequency, infrared, radar, nuclear radiation, and electro-optical. The SSP incorporates other types of signature data, e.g. chemical and biological warfare agents, lasers, and other dynamic phenomena of events and activities that support a wide array of domestic and foreign mission areas. SSP Access is available through http://dt.dia.smil.mil/nsp; and www.nsp.ic.dia.gov.
The theme of the 2008 ASTS is "Signatures for Domain Awareness and the Global War on Terrorism". The Symposium will focus on current applications of signatures, signature technologies and signature applications to operational and intelligence problems, as well as the development of new technologies and applications to future threats. Special emphasis this year will be on how Signatures facilitate analysis and operations for Domain Awareness and the Global War on Terrorism. Domain reness subtends Maritime Domain Awareness¹ and Air Domain Surveillance².
Topics of interest within each of the sessions include, but are not limited to, the following:
IED Signatures: Defeat the Device and Attack the Network
Biometric Signatures
WMD Signatures
DEW Signatures
Domain Awareness
Sessions will be open to attendees from Great Britain, Australia, and Canada. There will be US-Only sessions as well.
²"Air Domain" is defined as "global airspace, including domestic, international, and foreign airspace, as well as all manned and unmanned aircraft operating, in that airspace, and people and cargo present in that airspace and all aviation-related infrastructure".
