COA ACTIVITIES:
This list highlights various technical meetings, conferences, class tours, etc. recently attended by COA faculty and students. If you are interested in finding out more about these visits or getting involved with related research opportunities, contact the COA Director, Dr. J.O. Miller.
Air Force Analytical Community (AFAC) Steering Group (8-9 Mar, AF/A9 Roslynn, VA)
Presented briefing to this O6 level group on the COA research, consulting, and technology transfer opportunities.
HPC Forces Modeling Simulation IPT (9-10 Mar, Orlando, FL)
Presentation: "High Performance Computing (HPC) in Combat Modeling at AFIT." Led working group to develop Use Case for HPC in constructive combat modeling.
DoD M&S Conference (1-5 May, Baltimore, MD)
AFIT representative on DoD M&S Workforce Development Team/Focus Group. Gathered information on M&S graduate education, certificate programs, and spread word about AFIT and our M&S education.
Technical Meeting (11-12 May, ACC/A9 Langley AFB, VA) Presentation: "Using Agent-Based Modeling to Search for Elusive Hiding Targets." Discussion with combat modelers (BRAWLER, EADSIM, THUNDER/STORM).
AFOSR Mathematics and Discrete Optimization Program Review ( 22-24 May, Fort Walton Beach, FL)
Presentation: "Sensor Fusion for Automatic Target Recognition." Results presented for first of three year funded effort.
Wright Brothers Institute (WBI) Numerical Experiment Demonstration (18-19 May, St. Louis, MO)
Attended meeting at request of AFRL/VA to learn more about FLAMES simulation framework being used for combat modeling by VA and NASIC (and others). Plans to get academic copy of FLAMES for COA and follow VA efforts with potential for future research.
Technical Meeting (10 - 11 Jul, Sheppard AFB, TX)
Presentation: "Improving the UPT Student Follow-on Assignment Selection Process." This presentation was given by Maj "Strike" Messer (IOA6J graduate) on his GRP work while at AFIT. Meetings held with the European NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT) Program leadership to look at possibility of implementing Strike's recommendations for student assessment and aircraft assignments based upon demonstrated skills. After a year remote, Strike will be returning to ENJPT with the opportunity to help implement the results of his research.
AF Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Force Development (FD) Integrated Process Team (IPT) (18-19 July, AFAMS Orlando, FL) Inaugural meeting of the IPT and chance to discuss and make comments to M&S FD IPT charter and USAF M&S FD Implementation Plan. Comments focused on reminding AFAMS to think about education (especially graduate education) as it looks to outline requirements to develop a professional military and civilian M&S force.
COA ACTIVITIES (CONT):
Ice Breaker Event (19 Jul, ASC/SIMAF WPAFB)
