Research Interests:

Research is focused on remote sensing of transient combustion events in the battle space. Targets include high-explosive detonation fireballs, muzzle flashes from small and large caliber weapons, rocket and aircraft exhaust plumes, and smokestack effluents. Events are studied using hyperspectral imagers, spectrometers, radiometers, and high-speed cameras in the visible and infrared. Focus is on developing phenomenological models to enable physical understanding, reduce data dimensionality, and extract key features for event characterization. Developed framework for characterizing and discriminating various classes of improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Related interests include developing atmospheric correction methods and passive ranging techniques, understanding scene-change artifacts in interferometric (Fourier-transform) spectroscopy, and developing tailored instrumentation for specific electro-optical studies.
