Q. Can I appeal a grade?

A. A student who feels that an assigned grade is other than the grade earned must first discuss the matter with the course instructor to determine if the discrepancy is caused by error or misunderstanding. If the complaint is not satisfactorily answered by the instructor, and the student feels that an error has not been corrected or that the assigned grade was capriciously or unfairly determined, the student may appeal the decision to the head of the department in which the course is offered. After discussing the matter with the student, the head will consult with the course instructor and report a decision to the student. The final authority in the determination of the grade, however, rests with the course instructor.
