Details SYS 180 Contractor Supported Weapon System Program
Current Offering Dates & Locations:
Offering dates and locations are not applicable to this e-Learning course.
Course Overview:
| The Internet based CSWS course is designed to educate students in a reengineered Air Force process for providing initial spares support to new weapon system acquisitions and modifications. This program integrates pre-operational, interim contractor support, and initial spares requirements into a seamless support network, while providing a linkage to the sustainment phase of weapon system support. In the most complete implementation of CSWS tenets, the contractor becomes an official Air Force wholesale Inventory Control Point (ICP) and retains responsibility to manage peculiar items for an extended period of time until the system/subsystem either becomes “common” or is deemed mature/stable enough to transition to government management. Understanding this process is important to acquisition, modification, and support of weapon systems and commodities. |

Course Overview:
| The Manufacturing Readiness Assessment (MRA) Course is intended to prepare the student to integrate the MRA process in the acquisition life cycle of DOD Programs. The course will use case studies based on actual Air Force MRAs, as well as the DOD MRA Guidebook, to educate students on the manufacturing readiness assessment process used to assess the readiness of the critical manufacturing elements associated with that acquisition program. The course will also prepare the student to immediately participate in a MRA and conduct an accurate and defensible MRA Report on an acquisiton program.
Course Objectives: Students will learn how continuous Manufacturing Readiness Assessment is applicable throughout the lifecycle of DOD programs. Students will understand MRA terminology, how to conduct an MRA, the meaning of the Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRL), best practices, and how to manage manufacturing risk. Students will also become familiar with integrating MRA and MRLs into contract language.
Justification: DODI 5000.02 and CJCSI 3170.01 require manufacturing assessments throughout the life of a program. These assessments must focus on both emerging manufacturing technologies and the maturity of manufacturing processes, with focus on control and quality. This course will better prepare the acquisition workforce to perform these assessments and achieve more repeatable results. |

Course Overview:
| This course provides practical instruction for implementing the Capabilities Based Test and Evaluation (T&E) policy of AFI 99-103. It emphasizes the application of Integrated T&E management in creating a seamless continuum of developmental test and evaluation (DT&E), operational test and evaluation (OT&E), live fire test and evaluation (LFT&E), and modeling and simulation (M&S) activities in support of an acquisition strategy. The course provides current and practical concepts, processes, and techniques to help manage and conduct successful Integrated T&E. Classroom exercises are used to illustrate concepts and provide practical experience for students.
The course is tailored to the specific needs of the base where it is taught by expanding the most applicable lessons and condensing the less applicable lessons. For example, when SYS 229 is taught at an AFMC product center it is tailored to test management during development, when taught at a logistics center the emphasis is on test management during sustainment, and when taught at a test center the emphasis is on test execution. |

Course Overview:
There is a need for all acquisition professionals to understand the interdisciplinary and cross-functional nature of Systems Engineering (SE), and the benefits of following a sound SE process. This course provides the knowledge and understanding necessary to meet this need. Students (engineers and non-engineering professionals) are introduced to SE concepts and the SE process. The activities and tools for implementing and managing the SE process during various phases of the system life cycle, and the interactions between SE and other disciplines/functions are discussed. Exercises give students the opportunity to apply SE tools to the acquisition and sustainment life cycle.

Course Overview:
| WSYS 400 "Current Topics in Acquisition and Support: This course is an outstanding opportunity to learn or refresh on issues and initiatives impacting experienced acquisition and support professionals. Topics may vary somewhat from class to class, in part to reflect the most recent changes, but also to accommodate the schedules of expert guess speakers. The course enables students to listen to and engage with the experts--there is generally a different speaker or facilitator for each topic presented. Students also learn by reading a recent journal article and analyzing it with a small group of other students. The course is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn from one another, as they gather toegether from different functions, jobs, bases, and backgrounds to share knowledge and experience during roundtable discussions. Students thus benefit from exposure to the wide range of current topics in the acquisition and support arenas, helping to assess the impacts to their roles and responsibilities as managers. |

Course Overview:
| The Technology Readiness Assessment (TRA) process is a mandated systematic, metrics-based process performed by chosen Independent Review Panel members to ensure immature technologies are not included within the list of selected Critical Technology Elements (CTEs) documented within the TRA report. For ACAT I, TRAs are statutory and for ACAT II and III, TRAs are regulatory. The TRA Course provides instruction for Scientists and Engineers and Acquisition personnel who may support a formal TRA for a given project. The goals are for the students to understand the following: 1) When and why they should conduct a TRA. 2) Their roles and responsibilities for conducting a TRA. 3) What a program manager within a program office needs to do for planning and supporting required TRAs. 4) How to plan, conduct and participate in a team performing a TRA. |

There is a need for all acquisition professionals to understand the interdisciplinary and cross-functional nature of Systems Engineering (SE), and the benefits of following a sound SE process. This course provides the knowledge and understanding necessary to meet this need. Students (engineers and non-engineering professionals) are introduced to SE concepts and the SE process. The activities and tools for implementing and managing the SE process during various phases of the system life cycle, and the interactions between SE and other disciplines/functions are discussed. Exercises give students the opportunity to apply SE tools to the acquisition and sustainment life cycle.
