AFIT's Software Professional Development Program
Who Is Eligible?
SPDP classes are funded through AFIT for all DoD employees (active duty and reserve component service members and government civilians). Contractors & employees of other US Government Agencies may also enroll in SPDP courses on a space-available basis. There is no tuition charged for SPDP courses.AFIT provides textbooks and delivers these courses tuition-free to DoD employees. Any student who fails to successfully complete an SPDP course will be responsible for returning their AFIT-funded textbook (in usable condition) to the course manager. Contractors are responsible for procuring their own textbooks prior to the beginning of a course offering. (Many organizations will reimburse this minimal expense using funds earmarked for professional development.)
You are eligible to take the CSE 479, 480, 481, 482, and 483 if your current or projected DoD job involves acquisition, development or maintenance of software. You are not required to have a computer science background to enroll in these classes.
In order to enroll in other SPDP courses, we recommend that students have some experience with writing code in a high-level language. We assume students in CSE 484 through 489 understand fundamental data structures and programming concepts, such as control structures, pointers and linked lists.
