COLONEL DIANA J. SCHULZ
Colonel Diana J. Schulz is the Dean of the School of Systems and Logistics at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. The School of Systems and Logistics provides professional continuing education, service and research for the Air Force acquisition and logistics communities.
Diana Metzler was commissioned a second lieutenant in May 1977 through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Southeast Missouri State University and entered active duty in July 1977. Lieutenant Metzler initially served as a Data Automation Officer in the 51XX career field, as a Programmer/Analyst in the Cargo Branch at Scott AFB, Illinois. She went on to serve at Lajes Air Base in the Azores as a Data Processing Installation (DPI) Chief. Captain Metzler moved to Offutt AFB to manage the Intelligence Support Division within HQ SAC/AD. In 1986, the 51XX career field merged with the Communications career field to form the 49XX Communications/Computer Career field under the Air Force Communications Command (AFCC). Captain Metzler attended the AFCC Communications Chief of Maintenance School and was reassigned to Tinker AFB, Oklahoma as the Chief of Maintenance of the 3rd Combat Communications Group. Now using her married name, Major Schulz later moved to the Engineering and Installation Division (EID) on that same base. She left active duty Air Force in 1990, and returned to the Reserve component as a Logistics Officer. Her first Air Force Reserve position as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) was a Joint position at Keflavic Naval Air Station. She moved to Wright-Patterson AFB in 1996 as a Senior Logistics Planner with the Common Avionics System Program Office until the summer of 2000. LTC Schulz moved to HQ AFMC/ DR-CA where she began work as an Acquisitions Officer. LTC Schulz returned to active duty in September of 2001 and reported for duty at the Modernization Planning Division of HQ Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson AFB, on 17 December 2001. Col Schulz was selected and pinned on Colonel in March 2002 and became the Chief of the Capability Planning Division. In July 2004, Col Schulz was assigned to the Air Force Institute of Technology as the Dean of the School of Systems and Logistics. There, she was called back into the Regular Air Force from the AF Reserves in May 2006. Col Schulz is currently still assigned to AFIT.
In civilian industry, Col Schulz worked as a Software Program Manager at MCI Communications from June 1996 – August 1998. Following that, she worked as a Senior Business Analyst at the Federal Express Data Center in Colorado Springs, from August 1998 until September 2000. Col Schulz has two sons.
