AF Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3) Fundamentals Course

This three-day, instructor-led Professional Continuing Education (PCE) NC3 course is designed for the fundamental development of the mid-level experienced Nuclear/NC3 professionals. Topics of discussion tie the importance of NC3 to defense and NC3 designation as an AF weapon system. Specific topics may include deterrence, NC3 policy and governance, radio-waves and electromagnetic pulse effects, mission essential functions; and systems and NC3 enterprise modernization. At the end of the course, students will have greater insight into the NC3 enterprise at an “intermediate” level of competency; tactical to operational level of nuclear/NC3 operations/sustainment/modernization. This is one in a series of short courses and contains Top Secret material.

Grade Spread appropriate for attendance - SRA to MSgt; 1Lt to Lt Col; GS09-14. The estimated annual requirement is 210.  

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Comprehend the fundamental role of U.S. nuclear forces.
  2. Comprehend key nuclear and NC3 policy and guidance documents.
  3. Comprehend the EM wave form and radio communications associated with NC3 capabilities the impact of EMP on NC3 systems and architecture.
  4. Articulate the NC3 purpose, architecture, and functions associated with the five Mission Essential Functions of NC2 to include the purpose and flow of EAMs in an all-hazards environment.
  5. Apply threat analysis to effectively assess NC3 performance and modernization.
