Capt Kaitlin R. Berner is an Instructor of Acquisition Management at the Air Force Institute of Technology, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. She provides initial skills education for scientists, engineers, program managers, and select civilians supporting AFMC, AFSFC, and USSF members and leads developments and delivery of lessons, exercises, assessments over entire DoD acquisition system life cycle for 600 students each year. She also guides, advises, and provides research and support to senior level officials within the DoD, Secretary of the Air Force, and AFMC Head Quarters for optimal education for the workforce.
Capt Berner enlisted in the US Air Force in May 2007. She served as a Personnelist for nine years before commissioning in May 2016 as an Acquisitions officer. During her enlisted time, Capt Berner deployed as a PERSCO team member in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and the PACAF Cobra Gold exercise. She served various assignments through the Military Personnel Flight and Installation Personnel Readiness sections within the Force Support Squadron. She was assigned to Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi, Kadena Air Base, Japan, and Whiteman AFB, Missouri prior to commissioning. Once commissioned, she served at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, and Holloman AFB, New Mexico before returning to Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.
Capt Berner has held a variety of acquisition positions related to operations and sustainment functions and the test support community. While assigned at Wright-Patterson AFB, Capt Berner led as a program manager within the Business Enterprise Systems Directorate before serving as an executive officer to the Acquisition Excellence and Program Execution Directorate. Prior to her current position, Capt Berner was the Chief Portfolio Manager with the 586 Flight Test Squadron at Holloman AFB, New Mexico. There she led program management for over fifty test programs
