Captain Cortney Young is currently serving as an Air Force Institute of Technology Course Instructor for the Air Force’s badge awarding course for Contracting Professionals. Captain Young is responsible for instructing 5-week hybrid virtual/in-resident courses and delivering the curriculum to 350 new officer accessions and select civilians annually.
Captain Young entered the Air Force in November 2008 and earned her commission from Officer Training School in June 2018. She has served as a Contract Specialist and Contracting Officer in operational and enterprise services, commodities, and construction flights at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, AK, Nellis AFB, NV, and Joint Base Langley-Eustis. Prior to her role at AFIT, she was a Branch Chief with an Unlimited Warrant under the Acquisition Management and Integration Center at Langley AFB, VA, where supervised a team of 6 civilian and military personnel and managed a $1B Cyber Weapon System / Knowledge Based Services portfolio supporting five Air Combat Command Headquarters Directorates.
Captain Young was a warranted Contingency Contracting Officer and government purchase card holder for the Central Asian States Buying Cell initiative while deployed to the Transit Center at Manas, Kyrgyzstan in 2013. While deployed she was charged with establishing trade routes between the Central Asian States and promoting economic relations with the United States Government.
