Instructor, Environmental Management
Barry Woods is an Environmental Management Instructor at the Civil Engineer School, Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. His primary teaching will be focused on the Air Quality and Unit Environmental Coordinator Courses.
Before arriving at AFIT, Mr. Woods was assigned as the Chief, Asset Accountability Element, 1st Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron (1 SOCES), Hurlburt Field, Florida. He was responsible for management and oversight of the squadron’s Financial Management, Information Technology, and Real Property Sections.
Prior to this, Mr. Woods was assigned as an Environmental Protection Specialist with the 1 SOCES Environmental Element, Hurlburt Field, Florida. He was the Installation’s Storage Tank Manager responsible for 60 State Regulated Petroleum, Oil and Lubrication (POL) storage tanks. In addition, he performed duties as the Hazardous Waste Manager responsible for proper disposal of hazardous, universal, and special wastes generated by all organizations on Hurlburt Field. He ensured environmental compliance and practices IAW all governing regulations in day-to-day operations of the 90-day accumulation point site, ensuring hazardous wastes were collected and removed from the installation every 90 days. Mr. Woods piloted and created education and training modules covering regulatory requirements to ensure compliance in hazardous waste activities and spill response for the base populace for all military, civilians, and contractors. While in the position as the Air Quality Program Manager, his state comprehensive 5-year inspection rendered zero findings with over 500 audit items audited.
