For the second year, Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) faculty & staff participated in the STEM-ulate Your Mind Teacher Workshop. The workshop focused on providing teachers with hands-on lessons emphasizing developmentally appropriate science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) content as well as highlighting the many STEM resources available at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB).
From AFIT's Autonomy and Navigation Technology (ANT) Center, Mr. Rick Patton and Mr. Jeremy Gray demonstrated Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Technology to a group of area high school teachers.  The 20 teachers were also provided with sample lesson plans on navigation that they could use to incorporate into their classroom, for an impact of around 400 students.  In 2014, a group of local teachers came to AFIT where they met with female engineers and scientists at different stages in their career for a discussion on recruiting female students into STEM, as well as tours and demonstrations in the ANT Center and Center for Cyberspace Research.
The workshop, developed in partnership with the Air Force Research Laboratory's Aerospace Systems Directorate, Wright-Patterson AFB Educational Outreach Office, and many other supporting organizations, is of no cost to teachers of grades K-12 and provides them with necessary contact hours to maintain their certification.
