MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala --  Winning an Air Force-level award is an achievement in and of itself, but winning an international-level award is proof of how high your accomplishments stack up against the heavy-hitters from around the globe.

Dr. Julie Jackson, Air Force Institute of Technology faculty member, was selected for the Fred Nathanson Memorial Radar Award at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Radar Conference, April 22-26, 2019. The award gives international recognition to engineers under age 40 for their outstanding contributions to the radar art.

“Julie is an outstanding researcher who nicely merges theoretical findings with practical applications,” said Marco Martorella, director of the Interuniversity Consortium for Telecommunication National Radar and Surveillance Systems Laboratory, Pisa, Italy. “One of Julie’s major achievements is the characterization of scattering phenomena, which represent a milestone in the understanding and interpretation of radar signals and images in particular.”

Jackson has published more than 50 papers in major technical areas of radar, her work has been cited more than 650 times by other research articles, advised 30 graduate students and supervised 18 interns in the AFIT Radar Instrumentation Laboratory. “It is exciting to have my technical contributions recognized as significant by top members of the radar community,” said Jackson. “It’s gratifying to know the hard work I put in is having a positive impact.”
