Graduate School Hosts Research Open House

Posted Friday, September 18, 2015

On Thursday, 3 September 2015, AFIT's Graduate School of Engineering and Management hosted their second annual Research Open House.  There were several demonstrations including a laser demo and a radio tomographic imaging demo.  More than 25 posters highlighting faculty and student research projects including Adaptable Expeditionary Waste Management, Modeling Mental Workload of Healthcare Providers, Toward Automated Aerial Refueling:  Relative Navigation from Stereo Vision, Space Vehicle Design Sequence, and An Analysis of WPAFB Fire and Emergency Services Aggregate Response Times.

The event was packed with a constant stream of visitors, both internal and external to AFIT.

Dr. Todd Stewart, Director and Chancellor of AFIT stated, "I continue to be absolutely amazed at the quality of the innovative work being accomplished by our great faculty and students - and especially, by its relevance to enhancing Air Force and DoD operational capabilities.  The research projects on display were truly impressive.  But even more impressive to me is the learning our students gain in the process of doing these projects - learning that will pay an untold return on investment to the Air Force in the future."

Dr. Adedeji Badiru, Dean of the Graduate School, who initiated the event commented that, "This is a proud moment to showcase the science and technology leading edges of AFIT. Internally, we know the impacts we bring to the Air Force and DoD. We are very delighted to share our technological accomplishments with our external constituents. We were particularly glad to see several of our AFRL colleagues and collaborators at the Open House. Research is foundational to our educational mission. We teach what we research and we research what we teach. Through this showcase, we demonstrate how we blend theory with practice to continue to advance the boundary of Air Force technological excellence."

The mission of AFIT's Graduate School of Engineering and Management is to produce outstanding technical leaders in the DoD by providing superior graduate education built on defense-focused research.    The Graduate School is one of three resident schools at AFIT including the School of Systems and Logistics, and The Civil Engineer School.  The three schools work together to meet the mission of AFIT - to advance air, space, and cyberspace power for our armed forces, the Nation, and its partners by providing relevant defense-focused technical graduate and continuing education, research, and consultation.
