Research applications include high-energy laser weapons, remote sensing, and optical diagnostics. The lasers thrust includes fundamental spectroscopy, chemical kinetics, and gas phase laser demonstrations with an emphasis on the Chemical Oxygen-Iodine Laser (COIL), diode pumped alkali lasers, photodissociation lasers, and lasers for infrared countermeasures. The remote sensing thrust includes space surveillance, spectral signatures from munitions and missiles, hyperspectral imagery, passive ranging, environmental monitoring, and atmospheric transmission. Optical daignostics for reactive kinetics in supersonic flows and during the manufacture of thin films, including supreconducting wires, are being investigated.
