Richard Cockerham
Mr. Richard Cockerham is the Registration Professional Continuing Education Technician for the Department of Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications Studies at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana (AFIT/EXB). In this role, he is responsible for managing seat nomination, coordinating with command talent managers and points of contact, enrolling students, producing course certificates, and updating the Military Personnel Data System with course completion information for Airmen and Guardians. Additionally, he serves on an AFIT working group dedicated to optimizing student services and administrative support.
Prior to joining AFIT in 2023, Mr. Cockerham served as the Registrar at Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC), where he acquired over 20 years of extensive experience in academic administration and registrar operations. During his tenure at BPCC, he was selected to serve a three-year term as the Registrar Core Team Leader for the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. Mr. Cockerham's career is underpinned by 22 years of military service. From 1988 to 1998, he served in the Louisiana Army National Guard as an M1A1 Abrams tank crewman, progressing from loader to tank commander. He subsequently served in the U.S. Navy Seabees from 2001 to 2013, deploying to Iraq in 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Mr. Cockerham holds an Associate of Applied Science in Computer Information Systems from BPCC and a Bachelor of General Studies with a concentration in Business Administration from Louisiana State University in Shreveport.
