Mr. David Meyer is a Research Instructor in the Department of Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering, and has been part of the Center for Space Research and Assurance for several years.  In his time at AFIT, he has taught graduate level courses on the modeling and simulation of space scenarios, and is in the midst of creating a new course on space and multi-domain combat modeling.  David’s research focuses on the use of a variety of tools to better understand the space warfighting environment, with the tools consisting of STK/ODTK, AFSIM, scripting, high performance computing, data mining, data visualization/analytics, and more.  Recent work includes usage of a genetic algorithm to optimize a space and terrestrial based space situational awareness architecture, as well as support for orbital engagement maneuver sandbox efforts.

Mr. Meyer has Master’s Degrees in Mechanical Engineering and in Operations Research, both from the Naval Postgraduate School, and was a member of the NPS OR Dept. Faculty for 6 years before relocating to Ohio.

David served as a submarine officer for 20 years, completing several deployments.  Shore tours (other than NPS) included Assistant Operations Officer: CSS-8, Tactics Team Lead NAVSUBSCOL, and working on the OPNAV Staff for submarine modernization (N772C2).
