Major Nicolas S. Hamilton is an assistant professor at the Air Force Institute of Technology.  His research focuses on mitigating single event upsets and single event transients in commercial off the shelf microprocessors and field programmable gate arrays used in space environments through the use of hardware and software redundancy at the system level.  The redundancy approach integrates triple modular redundancy and temporal software redundancy in a hybrid architecture that adaptively switches between the two redundancy methods to provide satellite designers and operators the flexibility to trade performance, power, and radiation hardness as mission needs dictate.

Major Hamilton graduated from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology with a degree in Electrical Engineering and was commissioned from Air Force ROTC Detachment 218 in May 2009.  He entered active duty service in August 2009.  He was married in August 2012 and has two children.  His interests include spending time with family, Legos, videogames, and woodworking.
