13. “Factor Analysis of Industrial Development Variables for Economic Development in East Tennessee,” Summer Research Support; University of Tennessee Scholarly Activity Research Incentive Fund (SARIF), Summer 2002 (PI; $3,000).  The project developed a statistical factor analysis-based methodology for ranking social attributes that attract new businesses to East Tennessee.  It was based on the need by the local Chambers of Commerce to understand social factors that motivate businesses to locate plants in certain regions of a country.  The results of the study helped policy makers understand the interplay between industrial development, economic development, and social factors.
