BS, Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering, University of Illinois, 1985; MS, Astronautical Engineering, Air Force Institute of Technology, 1986; PhD, Astronautical Engineering, Air Force Institute of Technology, 1989. Dr. Hicks’ research interests include modeling of orbital and reentry trajectories, reconstruction/estimation of vehicle behavior from standoff sensors (stochastic estimation, orbit determination, etc.), and capabilities assessments of uncooperative aerospace missions. Prior to rejoining the AFIT faculty, Dr. Hicks had a 24+ year USAF career working mostly in space and intelligence, with 5+ years as AFIT military faculty. After the Air Force, he spent 13 years with Ball Aerospace supporting national intelligence. He rejoined the AFIT faculty in 2022. He is a life member of the Tau Beta Pi honor society and a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
