Dr. Kurtz is a retired USAF maintenance officer with experience in a variety of assignments to include fighter, reconnaissance and command and control aircraft, and conventional and nuclear munitions. A native of California, Dr. Kurtz spent 12 years as an enlisted crew chief assigned to the F-15 and RF-4C aircraft and deployed in support of Operations DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM. After earning a commission through ROTC in 1999, he completed tours at Malmstrom AFB, Montana and Kadena AB, Japan before finishing his career with the 898th Munitions Squadron at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico. He also served four years as a Military Training Instructor at Lackland AFB, Texas and one year in the Illinois Army National Guard assigned to the 133rd Signal Company. Ian earned an MS in Aerospace Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2006, and an MS in National Security from the University of New Haven in 2014. Ian finished his doctorate with National American University in 2020 and his dissertation is entitled, “Nuclear Deterrence in University Education.” He also serves as a Subject Matter Expert instructor for the Nuclear 200 course.
