Member, Breakthrough Starshot Advisory Committee, Photon Engine Subcommittee, Breakthrough Initiatives, Jul 2016 – Present

• Participates in kind as a subject matter expert in laser phased arrays with the goal of developing a cost-effective, earth-based means to generate a 100-gigawatt-class photon engine to accelerate interstellar spacecraft to 20% light speed of light
• Helps establish technical requirements and determine the most critical issues, so that the committee can effectively guide contract performance with 10 phase I efforts to date

• Served as the Chair in CY 2020 & Vice Chair in CY 2019
