Over fifty years of experience in administration, research and education within an Engineering College. Supervised and administered faculty within a departmental division. Developed research efforts and course offerings in composite materials, wave mechanics, elasticity, shells, fracture mechanics, and finite element techniques. Highly involved in technical society activity as chairperson and founder of various committees. Author of over seven hundred presentations and publications, two hundred and sixty-one are archival. Co-author of a textbook entitled, “Nonlinear Analysis of Shell Structures,” published by AIAA Educational Series, 1992. Invited Chapters in
“Additive Manufactured Handbook: Product Development for the Defense Industry”, 2017, Registered Professional Engineer - Ohio (initial registration in New York). Delivered invited lectures at a number of academic institutions. Advised 22 Post Docs, 37 PhD’s and over one hundred ninety MS theses. Fellow of AIAA, AAM, EMI, and ASCE.  Obtained over $5.5 million in funded research. Received the Outstanding Engineer and Scientist Award from the Affiliate Society of Dayton in 2011 and appointed Distinguished Professor Aerospace Engineering 2011.

Responsible for the department’s offerings and research effort in the field of solid
and material mechanics.

Responsibilities include: (1) Director of the Structural and Solid Mechanics Division consisting of five faculty members. (2) Elected President of the Faculty Senate 2010. (3) Developed and supervised the research for Doctoral Dissertations and Master of Science theses. In the areas of composite materials, fracture mechanics, high energy impact, nonlinear mechanics, vibrations and plates and shells. (3) Taught three to four graduate courses per year in my area of interest. (4) Advised the junior faculty in their research and teaching efforts. (5) Prepared and supervised the preparation of proposals to obtain research funding. (6) Administrative adviser for graduate classes within the department. (7) Member and former Chairman of the Institutes Doctoral Council. (8) Former Chairman of the Institutes Promotion and Tenure Committee. (9) Chairman of the Departments Promotion and Tenure Committee. (10) Past President of the Faculty Council. (11) Member of the Engineering School Strategic Plan- Research Committee. In conjunction with my doctoral students, I have developed three different computer programs incorporating a through the thickness compatible nonlinear shell finite element. Both the Lagrangian and Jaumann stress-strain relationships were used. In
addition, a finite element program, which can evaluate the visco-plastic effects at high temperature on crack extension or closure on fatigue loading, was also developed. Recently work has been pursued in the area of high velocity impact and Additive Manufacturing.
My administrative responsibilities have included advising faculty in research directions; developing new graduate programs; supervising curriculum development; evaluating new faculty; recommending the hiring of new faculty; establishing departmental goals and budgetary objectives. My research effort is being supported by approximately $130,000 per year of Air Force sponsorship. AFOSR support has been obtained related to high energy impact of a test facility at Holloman AFB. Wright Laboratory Material Directorate in conjunction with AFOSR is sponsoring a multi-year study into Lighter than Air Vehicles with an internal vacuum.

I taught at both the graduate and undergraduate level of engineering education in
the area of solid mechanics. I continuously wrote research proposals and was covered by
research grants from NASA and NSF while I was at the University. I also was Chairman
of the department. This required the supervision and budgetary considerations for a faculty
of eight.

I taught statics, dynamics, and undergraduate calculus. This position was in
conjunction with my Ph.D. studies at N.Y.U. from 1966-1968; I pursued these studies on
a full-time basis under NSF Faculty Fellowship.

1955 - 1963 - Prior to entering teaching in 1963, I worked as a project engineer on
advanced structural analysis for several consulting firms in the New York City area.
Private Practice - I was involved in a part-time consulting engineering practice
dealing primarily in the solid mechanics area. The service considered a wide range of
problems from fracture failure to large shell structural analysis. I am registered in the
state of Ohio.
