Dr. James Petrosky is a Professor of Nuclear Engineering and the Director of the NEAT Center at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) where he conducts research, teaches graduate and outreach courses in the area of nuclear weapons effects (in particular; nuclear weapon physics, electromagnetic pulse effects, and radiation effects on electronics).  He has established multiple research threads associated with foundational measurements on electronic materials within 4 separate laboratories at AFIT.  He has successfully chaired 12 PhD students and 57 MS students. He has authored 86 peer-reviewed publications including 19 in controlled defense journals. At AFIT he has served as the Nuclear Engineering program Chair, Deputy Department Head, and Associate Department head. He has and continues to serve as a subject matter expert on multiple NNSA review committees related to the nuclear weapons modernization. He has been awarded the Charles Stone Award, Aldren Research Excellence Award, AETC Science and Technology Professor of the Year award, General Bernard Schriever Award, and was a member of the AETC Nuclear Deterrence Operations Professional Team of the Year in 2004 and 2019.
