Colonel Albrecht is the Director of AFIT's Center for Space Research and Assurance where he leads a team of over 30 faculty and staff in focusing graduate space research across multiple departments and academic disciplines in partnership with sponsors from the Air Force, DoD, USG, academia, and industry. Research areas include experimental CubeSats and payloads, satellite propulsion, cyber assurance, space domain awareness, autonomy, orbital engagement, and modeling and simulation.

Prior to his assignment to AFIT, Col Albrecht was the Capabilities Division Chief at U.S. European Command where he led the Command’s strategy-to-resources process turning warfighting capability shortfalls into resource priorities through DoD’s IPL, POM, and PBR cycles. Colonel Albrecht was commissioned in 1993 as the Corps Commander of Northwestern University’s Air Force ROTC program. He has held analytic positions at a variety of command levels including Joint Staff, Headquarters Air Force, Air Staff Field Operating Agency, Component/Numbered Air Force, and has deployed in support of U.S. Central Command’s Combined Forces Air Component Commander. His leadership positions have included Director of Operations, Detachment 1, 609th Air and Space Operations Center, Shaw AFB, South Carolina, Combatant Command Division Chief at U.S. European Command, and Commandant of the Community College of the Air Force, Maxwell-Gunter AFB, Alabama. He is an Air War College graduate and a Joint Qualified Officer.
