Office of Alumni Affairs


AFIT  first  granted accredited resident  degrees in 1955, more than 18,700 graduate and 760 doctor of philosophy degrees have been awarded.

Since AFIT's establishment in November of 1919, the institute has counted among its alumni some of the most accomplished engineers and scientists known worldwide, both past and present. This list includes Air Force pioneers Gen. George Kenney, Gen. Jimmy Doolittle, Gen. Bernard Schriever, Gen. Benjamin Chidlaw, Astronauts Virgil " Gus" GrissomGordon Cooper, and Guion Bluford, to name a few.

The AFIT Alumni Affairs Office is committed to maintaining a positive relationship with our worldwide network of graduates. Our mission is to continue the exchange of research, technology and career information that inspired students and faculty during their time at AFIT.



Call for Nominations
AFIT Distinguished Alumni Award

In conjunction with the AFIT Foundation, AFIT is seeking nominations of extraordinary graduates for recognition as an AFIT Distinguished Alumni.  To nominate an alum, complete the nomination form detailing the person's achievements and impact to their industry and/or profession by 31 Aug 2017.

The AFIT Distinguished Alumni Awards Ceremony will be held in October 2017. Additional information on the ceremony will be forthcoming.

  • Goals and Objectives in Recognition of Distinguished Alumni
    • Goals:
      • To recognize and honor graduates who have distinguished themselves through high levels of career achievement.
    • Objectives:
      • To motivate current students and graduates to excellence and high expectations by providing examples of superior achievement.
      • To advance the stature of AFIT by calling public attention to achievements of graduates.
      • To strengthen AFIT by building a sense of continuity between past graduates, current students, and current and retired faculty.
  • Eligibility Criteria
    • To be eligible, the candidate:
      • Must be a graduate of a resident AFIT degree program/s (BS, MS and Ph.D.) or
      • A graduate of pre-accreditation (BS and MS degree-equivalent) program/s offered between 1948-1955 or
      • A graduate of the School of Engineering (Signal Corps and Army Air Corps) through 1946.
    • The candidate shall not be currently on active duty with any service, or serving in a civilian capacity for the Department of Defense.
