Congratulations to AFIT alum Dr. Mark Derriso (PhD Electrical Engineering, 2013)!  Dr. Derriso received the 2016 Society for Machinery Failure Prevention Technology (MFPT) Jack Frarey Memorial Award for Excellence at their annual conference in May.
Dr. Derriso is the Technical Advisor to the Warfighter Interface Division, Human Effectiveness Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.  For 15 years, Dr. Derriso has pioneered and pursued technologies to advance the state of the art in aircraft health management. He directed a research team to design and develop the first structural health monitoring system to be implemented on an operational aircraft.  The system automatically detected and located damage, assessed the damage, and predicted future behavior of aircraft structures via sensors and software models.
