Alum selected by President Obama to key Administration post

AFIT  alum Dr. L. Wayne Brasure (M.S. Nuclear Engineering, 1985), has been selected by President Obama as the Appointee for Director for Domestic Nuclear Detection, Department of Homeland Security.

Currently, Dr.  Brasure is the Deputy Director of the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), a position he has held since 2014.  Since May 2016, Dr. Brasure has served concurrently as the Acting Director of DNDO.  Prior to joining DHS, Dr. Brasure was the Director of the Air Force Office of Scientific Research in 2014.  He was the Executive Director of the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center at Kirtland Air Force Base from 2010 to 2014 and a Stockpile Sustainment Manager at the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration from 2008 to 2010.  Over the past 30 years, he has served in a variety of leadership and management positions in the Air Force, including as Chief of the Stockpile Systems Division of the Air Force Nuclear Weapons and Counterproliferation Agency, Director of the Air Force High Power Microwave Program at Kirtland Air Force Base, and Chief of the Atmospheric Sciences Division and the Nuclear Assessment Branch at the Air Force Technical Applications Center at Patrick Air Force Base.  Dr. Brasure received a B.S. from the University of Michigan, an M.S. from the University of Southern California, an M.S. from the Air Force Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico.
