Student & Professional Organizations

Department Student Council

Each class group in the Department of Operational Sciences has elected class leaders. These leaders comprise the department student council. The department student council meets monthly with the department Head and others as a means of ongoing dialog about the student experience within AFIT.

Professional Societies

There are several professional societies which students in our department may choose to join as student members. These include:

• INFORMS – the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences
• MORS – the Military Operations Research Society
• IIE – the Institute of Industrial Engineers
• SOLE – the International Society of Logistics
• CSCMP – the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals

Academic Honor Societies

Selection for membership in an academic honor society is done on the basis of nomination and achievement. The honor societies most prominently awarded to our department’s students are:

• Tau Beta Pi – the national Engineering Honor Society
• Sigma Iota Epsilon – the national Management Honor Society
