Inbound Student Reporting Information

The information presented below is meant to cover general information for those students selected by their service component to attend the Graduate School of Engineering and Management at Wright-Patterson as a military assignment.  If you need to contact us with specific questions or concerns, please email afit.ene.enstudentservices@us.af.mil or telephone (937) 656-3107.

Additionally, most documents referenced below can be found at the document library located HERE.

Academic Eligibility Does Not Equal Selection to AFIT

The question we most often get is a variation of “I got a letter of eligibility, when do I get my orders?” When competing for a funded seat to attend the Graduate School full-time, there are two parts to the process.  First, apply to the program through your service component.  Second, apply to the AFIT Graduate School for academic eligibility.  The actual selection is made by the service component and released in some form for notification.  For USAF, the selection list is released through a PSDM posted on myFSS.

When Will I Report?

The Graduate School of Engineering and Management operates on quarters, and Fall is the primary starting term.  If you are on a standard 18-month masters program, or 36-month doctoral program, you will likely report in August.  If you have an extended program, such as a 21 or 24-month program, you will start earlier (21-month starts in June with Summer term and 24-month starts in March or April with Spring term).  Your reporting date is calculated to give time enough for base and unit in-processing prior to starting classes.  More information can be found on the Reporting Instructions document located HERE

What is the General Process to get Orders?

AAD selection lists are normally released in December, with changes posted throughout the cycle.  There is usually an additional supplemental call and supplemental selection list released in the spring. Once we are notified of selections, we verify academic eligibility for program and length found on the selection document.   If everything checks out, we compile information needed by your assignments office to generate orders and send it via email.  Generally speaking, the active duty USAF is processed by normal channels at AFPC, while the ROTC graduates are processed by the accessions office.  The USAFA and sister services process their own.

NOTE:  Students already assigned to WPAFB will PCA (versus PCS).  Students PCAing are not authorized travel entitlements and will not get orders.  Your source document will be the AF Form 2096, which your losing personnel office should discuss with you.  PCA reporting dates are listed on the Reporting Instruction document.

Can I Change my Report Date?

Report dates are programmed to meet scheduled mass in-processing activities and reporting changes are discouraged.  However, we understand there are situations that may require adjustment to reporting.  These requests are considered on a case-by-case basis and must be requested through our office.  Please email using the contact information at the top of the page and include the relevant information.

Ohio? What is there to do in Ohio?

There are plenty of adventures to be found in Ohio.  Check out some of these sites (listed sites do not infer endorsement by the DoD, DAF, AFIT, or any other government office.  They are provided as reference only).
