Frequently Asked Questions
Eligibility:
All USAF officer, enlisted, and civilian personnel assigned to the AF nuclear mission and sponsored within the quota given to the AF Nuclear MAJCOMs or Agencies will be considered. *
Service Commitment:
Officer students will incur a two-year Active-Duty Service Commitment (ADSC) and Reserve Officers a four-year Reserve Service Commitment (RSC). The service commitments run concurrently and will be applied per course per term/quarter/semester. For questions, please contact the program administrative supports.
APNE Program Processes:
To participate in the APNE program, applicants must successfully seek and obtain nomination and acceptance during specified nomination periods, typically during the Spring and Fall.
To be considered, interested personnel should complete the APNE Prospective Student Questionnaire and submit it to the APNE team via email, AFIT.EX.APNE@us.af.mil. The APNE team will connect students to their designated Talent Manager and answer any additional questions. Personnel may reach out to their Talent Manager directly by following their MAJCOM or Agency call for nominee procedures. Varies by MAJCOM/Agency.
Designated Talent Managers select nominees for their given quotas and are approved by APNE leadership. Nominees will receive a “Welcome to APNE!” email package from the AFIT/EXP Administrators if/when approved for the APNE program. Nominees are not considered “officially accepted” to the APNE program until they are accepted by their approved university.
Nominee/Student requirements and considerations:
Complete University-Specific Admissions and Enrollment Processes:
Upon receipt of APNE welcome email, it is each prospective student’s responsibility to complete the formal university admissions and enrollment processes prior to university deadlines. APNE acceptance is contingent upon student's acceptance to their approved university. We have provided an anticipated schedule for critical university dates, however it is the responsibility of each student to confirm critical dates, for the specific term, with their university contact. AFIT/EXP Administrators will be available for consultation and advice. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document in the resources section on this page for additional information.
Admissions and Course Enrollment:
Prior to students enrolling in their first course, please note the following:
o Application Fees and Transcripts – Some schools waive this fee for military students.
o Books – Many schools offer digital library access for eBooks; however, availability and time may be limited.
o Materials – Software, notebooks, etc.
o Equipment – Students may need a personal computer to access Zoom or the education portals of the school to which they’ve been accepted.
*A limited number of seats are available for USSF personnel. For more information, please contact the AFIT/EXP Administrators.
