Nuclear 200: Nuclear Fundamentals Course

Nuclear 200 course introduces Airmen with less than 8 years of service supporting the AF’s nuclear enterprise and mission or in support roles/non-core nuclear billets. Through facilitated discussion and lectures supported by video presentations partnered with a classified tour of the DTRA Nuclear Weapons Informational Museum and AF Senior Mentors, students are provided a frame of reference with which to explore US nuclear mission, capabilities, and issues. Major topic areas include: nuclear weapon fundamentals; nuclear community; nuclear force structure; stockpile guidance, planning, and assessment; and nuclear surety.

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
  1. Describe the Air Force Nuclear Enterprise governance body of practice.
  2. Describe the most recent state of the Air Force Nuclear Enterprise.
  3. Explain how the Air Force Nuclear Enterprise is assessed.
  4. Recognize current and future USAF nuclear weapons and weapon systems.
  5. Outline/summarize the basics of nuclear weapons, physics, design, and effects.
  6. Discuss the current US deterrence and nuclear policy strategy concepts and operations.
  7. Recall the roles the USAF plays in assurance and extended deterrence.
