International military officers are asked to contact United States (U.S.) Security Assistance Office (SAO) at the U.S. Embassy in their home country to determine if their government will support studies at AFIT's Graduate School of Engineering and Management.
The International Military Student Office (IMSO) at the Graduate School of Engineering and Management will assist international military officers and government civilian employees with the procedures of application for admission to AFIT's Graduate School of Engineering and Management. Prospective international military officers apply through the U.S. Security Assistance Office (SAO) at the U.S. Embassy in their home country.
Application Package Information
Application packages for eligibility evaluation should arrive at the IMSO no later than 30 April of each year in preparation for entrance the following September. The prospective student needs to submit the following documents:
To support the application process and help with the admission decision, we recommend submitting the following documents as well:
A satisfactory command of the English language is required for admission to the Graduate School of Engineering and Management; therefore international military officers from non-English speaking countries are required to validate their fluency in English through the TOEFL. A minimum Internet Based Testing TOEFL score of 76 or 207 on the computer based TOEFL is required. The identification code for the Graduate School of Engineering and Management is 1827. Please visit the website.
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Score Report or, if applicable to the particular program, a Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) is required and the nominal scores are:
*GRE: 500 verbal and 600 quantitative. Special note: : A satisfactory TOEFL score will satisfy the minimal GRE verbal score required for admission for non-English speaking country applicants.
*GMAT: Total Score 550 (GMAT Is only accepted in certain programs and not all. Thus we recommend taking the GRE as it is accepted by all departments)
Applications for master’s degree programs:
These applications will be considered by the Graduate School of Engineering and Management if GRE/GMAT scores are less than the scores published above, or not available; however the applicant’s academic record and TOEFL scores must be exceptionally strong. In addition, the academic departments reserve the right to ask for either test prior to making an admission decision. Thus, if the applicant chooses to submit an application without a GRE or GMAT it should be submitted no later than 1 March in the year of the desired program start date.
Applications for doctoral programs:
These applications must include all of the above documents. GRE scores must be submitted and the nominal standard scores are 550 verbal and 650 quantitative. In addition, doctoral applicants must provide a clear and concise statement (in English) describing the area in which the student intends to concentrate his or her studies. Doctoral and IDE students cannot be admitted without GRE scores, however those scores are waiverable, and thus a score lower than 550 verbal and/or 650 quantitative will not automatically disqualify any applicant. Special note: A satisfactory TOEFL score will satisfy the minimal GRE verbal score required for admission for non-English speaking country applicants.
