COURSE: WENG 550 Airfield Pavement Design and Maintenance

OBJECTIVE:  For each student to comprehend and be able to apply the principles of airfield pavement design in accordance with Unified Facility Criteria. In order to accomplish this overall objective, the student must understand the fundamental design theory, criteria, material performance, and pavement management concepts.
DESCRIPTION:  This course includes theory, principles and techniques for airfield pavement design in accordance with DoD Unified Facility Criteria. These concepts can be applied to design of new pavements and rehabilitation of existing pavements to includes reconstruction and overlays. The course also covers fundamentals of pavement management to include pavement distress identifications, rehabilitation and repair techniques, and PCASE design and evaluation software. The course is technically challenging, and an average of two to three hours per night of homework is required.
