New Course Catalog Course Description

COURSE: WENG 560 Fundamentals of HVAC Design and Analysis

OBJECTIVE:  To provide mechanical engineers with the tools and best practices applicable to HVAC system analysis and design.
DESCRIPTION:  An advanced level course intended to build upon HVAC fundamentals to give mechanical engineers the ability to perform HVAC system analysis and design. This course will cover: General HVAC concepts, Systems, Equipment. Major topics include thermodynamics, heat transfer, psychrometrics, design conditions, facility energy estimating & load calculations, air and water system design, air-conditioning systems & configurations, air-processing equipment, and refrigeration.

CEUs: 8.5
PRIMARY AUDIENCE:  Mechanical engineers responsible for the analysis, design, procurement, and operation of HVAC systems; Mechanical Engineer PAQ, 32E with an undergrad in Mechanical Engineering, and 32E with WENG 460 complete
SECONDARY AUDIENCE:  Engineers other than Mechanical, Mechanical Engineer in a non-HVAC related posistion, 3E1X1 with an undergrad in engineering
PREREQUISITES: WENG 460 or Degree Mechanical Engineering

Note: While WENG 460 is not required for Degreed Mechanical Engineers, it is still highly recommended and encouraged to provide a foundation for HVAC Design.
