OBJECTIVE:  For students to comprehend the process of design, construction, operation and maintenance of facility plumbing systems, and to apply these skills to ensure efficient and effective operation of those systems throughout their lifecycle.

DESCRIPTION:  WENG 562 Facility Plumbing Systems is a web-based, advanced level course intended to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the facility plumbing systems they may encounter. This course will be broken into several Modules, each with several short lessons. It will look at the roles of key players in our civil engineer community that affect all phases of a facility plumbing systems’ lifecycle. It will also look at some of the key documents that guide us through these phases. Additionally, the course will explain the typical layout of a potable water distribution system and the associated components within such systems. The course will also get into the design process of potable water distribution systems. Similar instruction will be provided for sanitary drainage and venting systems, backflow prevention and cross connection, storm drainage systems as well as compressed air and natural gas systems. It will wrap up by taking a step back to walk through the process of how a building plumbing system goes from an idea, through design, construction and eventually turnover to the Air Force for us to operate and maintain. This will help us better understand industry’s established project delivery process for such systems and will allow us to be better invested owners of these systems which are often designed by outsourced engineering firms and constructed by outside contractors.
