On 27 Feb 2023, 17 total force students comprised of emergency managers (3E9) officers, senior non-commissioned officers, and civilians kicked off the new, redesigned Emergency Management Flight Leadership Course (MGT 410) at the Air Force Institute of Technology, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.
This course combines the previous distance learning component and the in-resident component into a new two-week course.
Prior to the course’s launch, an education working group convened in October 2022 at AFIT to overhaul the two old courses. The newly designed version is comprised of several classified lessons and practicums tied to the 2022 National Defense Strategy to better prepare total force leaders for potential future conflicts and to enable them to more effectively execute the Air Force’s EM and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear programs at their installations.
The first week of the course has an EM program/peacetime focus, while the second week focuses on CBRN and wartime emergency management.
This in-resident course will provide students with a forum for a more advanced-level discussion on EM flight leadership best practices and lessons-learned on current issues. Students will also learn about emerging initiatives so they can more effectively lead at the installation level during peacetime, contingency, and wartime scenarios as well as enhance the installation's ability to coordinate with local, state, and federal level EM organizations.
The Emergency Management Flight Leadership Course (MGT 410) course is offered twice a year; once in the spring and once in the fall.
