Below are our frequently asked questions. If you do not see what you need, please continue to the Contact Us page and let us know!

Orders/Fund Cite

Q: How do I get my orders?

A: You should receive direction from a CE School Course Manager that contains directions for your course. Most funded courses will use the TDY To School (TTS) with follow-on directions for the Defense Travel System (DTS). Some courses will utilize DTS directly with a fund cite label provided by the CE School Course Manager. Unfunded courses (or when directed to use Unit Funds) will utilize DTS directly in accordance with your local policy.

Q: I need assistance using TDY To School (TTS). Can you help?

A: TDY-to-School is operated by the 502 CPTS/FMFLT, not AFIT, and we are unable to get involved in the actual orders process. For step-by-step instructions on completing the electronic request click on TTS Handbook or after you login click HELP then DOCS. If you have questions or need clarification, contact 502 CPTS at DSN 487-2971, commercial (210) 652-2971 or send an e-mail to: tdy.school@randolph.af.mil

Q: How do I use the Cross Org Line of Accounting (LOA) label in the Defense Travel System (DTS)?

A: The Cross Org Line of Accounting (LOA) label is provided once a fund-cite has been loaded into your DTS account to pay for the TDY. Once you have created your Authorization Order in DTS, select the Accounting icon from the top legend and then view the Accounting Codes box located at the top left-hand side of the screen. Click the Cross Org LOA: drop-down box and select the appropriate label.

Q: TDY To School (TTS) has not responded. Can you help?

A: TDY-to-School is operated by the 502 CPTS/FMFLT, not AFIT, and we are unable to get involved in the actual orders process. If you have questions or need clarification, contact 502 CPTS at DSN 487-2971, commercial (210) 652-2971 or send an e-mail to: tdy.school@randolph.af.mil.

Lodging

Q: Do I need to make my own lodging reservations?

A: Lodging reservations will be made for you. The entire class will be lodged at the same location. Your reservation will be guaranteed from one day prior to the class start date (check-in after 1400) through the final day of the course (check-out before 1100), unless a late release time is scheduled for that day. Contact lodging to change your arrival or departure dates if arriving earlier or leaving later.

Q: Will I need to do anything with lodging reservations?

A: You must call lodging to confirm your registration with your credit card no later than the Thursday before the class start date or the reservation will be cancelled.

Q: When will I receive lodging information?

A: You will receive a pre-course letter from TCES a couple weeks prior to the class start date. Lodging information will be included in this letter. If you do not receive your letter by the week prior to the class start date, contact the School at DSN 785-2156 or 937-255-5654 ext. 2156.

Q: Do you have an address for lodging that I can use in my GPS?

A: The GPS addresses for WPAFB Lodging or Hope Hotel are below:

WPAFB Lodging: Bldg 825, Area A, 2439 Schlatter Dr., WPAFB, OH. 45433
Hope Hotel: 3660 State Route 444, Fairborn, OH. 45324

Q: Is the school within walking distance of lodging?

A: The CE School is approximately four miles from lodging, about an hour and twenty minute walk. The good news is that Base transportation will be provided between the primary lodging location and the CE School.

Course Definitions

Q: What is a Satellite Course?

A:  Satellite courses are courses that are taught real-time by an instructor in one of our broadcast studios here at the Civil Engineer School. The course is broadcasted much like a television signal to special equipment at bases world-wide. Students interact with the instructor via two-way audio and utilize online materials and testing. A typical satellite course involves 4 hours of broadcast and 2-4 hours of homework per day, although some are broadcast for a full 8-hour day with homework required outside of class.

Q: What is a Web Enabled Course?

A: Web Enabled courses are web-based self-paced courses utilizing online materials and testing along with pre-recorded instructional videos. Web Enabled Courses typically run 6 weeks and involve about 2 hours a day.

Q: What is an Alternate Location Resident Course?

A: An Alternate Location Resident course is a standard resident course taught at a location other than Wright-Patterson AFB. The CE School sends an instructor to a location to teach the course in a traditional classroom setting. All students attend on unit funds, but the concept allows for regional attendance with a cost that may be less expensive than travelling to Wright-Patterson AFB.

Q: What is the dress for courses?

A: Military members will wear the Uniform of the Day (UOD or Service equivalent) for all class days, and Civilians should wear Civilian Business Casual - No jeans, sweats, shorts, athletic wear, or flip flops.

Q: Will the CE School pay for a rental car while I’m attending courses?

A: The CE School does not fund rental cars at this time. Base transportation will be provided between the primary lodging location and the CE School.

Q: Are there any places to eat nearby?

A: It does not take very long to travel across the Dayton metro area, so there is a wide selection of restaurants available. Check out www.activedayton.com for more information. (No federal endorsement intended).
