Nuclear 275: Nuclear Education for Tomorrow’s Leaders

The objective of this discussion-based SECRET course is to provide students with a broad overview of today’s nuclear mission, covering force structure, surety concepts, policy and strategy balanced against Great Power Competition (GPC), deterrence challenges, and other existing nuclear-related realities.  Designed to cultivate an appreciation for today’s precarious deterrence climate and encourage them to advocate for the U.S. Nuclear Enterprise, students are expected to contribute to topics with real-world experiences or academic opinions.  This course is designed for those in positions of leadership (e.g., Section Chief, Flight Chief, Team Chief, Flight Commander, Section Commander, Branch Chief, Team Lead, Deputy Division Chief, Division Chief, Program or Project Lead or Manager, and Director) or those influencing decision-makers.  Students accepted into this course are in grades/ranks: E-5 to E-8, O-1 to O-4, and GS-9 to GS-14 (or equivalent).

Location: Kirtland AFB, NM or MET Host Unit Location

Objective: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to describe their unit’s mission and capabilities contributing to deterrence; understand that deterrence is a cornerstone of U.S. security policy and the importance of deterrence and assurance concepts; describe strategic deterrence; summarize deterrence and assurance concepts; analyze and address strategic and regional deterrence, stability, and assurance; explain role of nuclear weapons in U.S. security policy; differentiate the roles of DoD, DOE, and other agencies in acquisition and sustainment; and advocate for the nuclear mission.
