International Student Admissions

The International Military Student Officer is responsible for assisting international military officers and international government civilian employees with applying for admission to the Air Force Institute of Technology's (AFIT) Graduate School of Engineering and Management and AFIT's professional continuing education programs. Prospective international military officers apply to AFIT through their country's Training Command via the United States Security Assistance Office (SAO) at the United States (US) Embassy in their home country.

Application packages for evaluation should arrive at the International Military Student Office no later than 30 April of each year in preparation for entrance the following September. Application packages must include the following documents:

  • Official transcripts in English from every academic institution attended (or official transcripts accompanied by an English translation).
  • The Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL), unless exempted by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA). A minimum internet-based testing TOEFL score of 76 or computer based TOEFL score of 207 is required. The identification code for the Graduate School of Engineering and Management is 1827.
  • A Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Score Report. Minimum scores of 500 verbal and 600 quantitative are required for master's programs and scores of 550 verbal and 600 quantitative are required for doctoral programs.

Applications for any master's degree program will be considered by the Graduate School of Engineering and Management if GRE scores are less than the scores published above or are not available; however, the applicant's academic record and TOEFL scores must be exceptionally strong. In addition, the academic departments reserve the right to ask for the GRE test prior to making an admission decision. Thus, if the applicant chooses to submit an application without a GRE, the package should be submitted no later than 1 March in the year of the desired program start date. Exact program lengths are dependent upon the applicant's qualifications, and final decision for acceptance into any program and the required program length resides with the individual departments.

To support the application process and help with the admission decision, we recommend submitting the following documents as well:

In addition to submitting all the above documents, doctoral applicants must provide a clear and concise statement describing the area in which he or she intends to concentrate his or her studies. Doctoral and Intermediate Developmental Education (IDE) students cannot be admitted without GRE scores; however, those scores are waiverable, and lower scores will not automatically disqualify any applicant.

AFIT's International Military Student Officer is Mr. Michael Paprocki. He is an experienced professional in the fields of International Affairs, management, and admissions and can advise the SAO and the applicants of the Graduate School's requirements. Please contact him here.
