Video Transcript
LOG 262, Applied Maintenance and Logistics Management Concepts is offered as a 7-day in resident or 4-week online continuing education course for maintenance and logistics officers, NCOs and civilians. The course is sponsored by Headquarters Air Force/A4 and presented by the AFIT School of Systems and Logistics and it awards 60 continuous learning points. LOG 262 focuses on quantitative problem solving and business case creation within the Air
Force. It’s essentially an undergraduate survey course covering concepts from production and operations management and related disciplines, with a special emphasis on application to current, real-world Air Force maintenance and logistics activities. Topics range from continuous process improvement methodologies like Lean, Six Sigma and Theory of Constraints to more
quantitative subjects like Statistical Process Control and basic Reliability Theory. We’ll even spend some time discussing Group Dynamics as it applies to the maintenance and logistics decision environment.
Understanding these topics will help you identify your process constraints, so you can better focus your improvement efforts. We’ll also cover topics like Capacity Planning, Systems Management and Project Scheduling to help you put your process improvement plans into action.
During our lectures and discussions, we’ll draw on your experiences, so you should generally have at least a year or more of actual workplace exposure before signing up for the course. LOG 262 is designed for maintenance and logistics managers and supervisors, so whether you’re at the field, depot, or MAJCOM level, you can certainly benefit from the course. In fact, we typically
get a good mix of various career fields, which adds to the class and always generates some great discussions.
The payoff of the course comes from our capstone activity involving guided analysis by student teams working through current, real-world improvement opportunities that result in the creation of a business case with recommended solutions that you can take forward for action.
