Major Benjamin Heruska (M.S. Computer Engineering, 2015) and Major Kassandra M. Miller (M.S. Operations Research 2011) were selected as AY21 Blue Horizons Fellows.

 

The Blue Horizons program is a 10-month professional developmental education program with the charter to explore issues of future geo-strategic and military-technological competition as they relate to building advantage for the United States.  Administered by the Air Force Center for Strategy and Technology, each cohort averages a select mix of 14 Majors and Lieutenant Colonels who are awarded a Master of Science in Airpower Strategy and Technology Integration degree.
 

Blue Horizons receives an annual research question from the Chief of Staff of the Air Force and conducts an in-depth study of the topic through academics, research, and hands-on learning.  The Blue Horizons Fellow’s results are presented directly to the CSAF as well as key agencies and senior leaders. Graduates are then strategically placed in high impact positions to incorporate their new education and skills.
 

Major Benjamin Heruska (M.S. Computer Engineering, 2015) commissioned in 2008 through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at Georgia Tech, and is a Computer Engineer, specializing in cyber and qualified as a cyber operations officer. His previous assignments included the Air Force Research Laboratory, Headquarters Air Force Material Command, the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, and the 70th Intelligence, Reconnaissance, and Intelligence Wing. He has a M.S. in Computer Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology and is graduate of the Computer Network Operations Development Program.

 

Major Kassandra M. Miller (M.S. Operations Research 2011) is an Operations Research Analyst specializing in Space Policy and Defense. She received her commission and BS in Operations Research in 2007 from the United States Air Force Academy. She also holds a MS in Operations Research from the Air Force Institute of Technology. She has served in a variety of space analysis positions including AFRL’s Rocket Lab at Edwards Air Force Base, Air Force Space Command A9, and National Reconnaissance office’s Systems Engineering Directorate and Office of Policy and Strategy. Additionally, she has supported AETC’s Studies and Analysis Squadron and deployed to the Operations Assessment Team at the Combined Air operations Center, Al Udeid. Most recently she was the Military Assistant to the Director of the National Reconnaissance Office. Prior to joining Blue Horizons, she was an Air University Fellow instructing at Squadron Officer School.
