COURSE: WENV 350 Environmental Management Systems Auditing Course

OBJECTIVE:  For each student to comprehend the Air Force Environmental Management System (EMS) framework in conjunction with the Environmental Inspection Process under the AF Inspection System (AFIS). Students will thoroughly understand each step in the EMS audit process and how the environmental management review process integrates with AFIS, so that installation EMS effectiveness is adequately evaluated in context of mission support.
DESCRIPTION:  This course provides a detailed understanding of requirements behind the Air Force Environmental Management Systems (EMS) framework. Students will: identify strengths and weaknesses of EMS; understand key Air Force requirements for an effective EMS, understand AFIS inspection criteria; learn to identify a potential nonconformity; learn techniques for effective stakeholder interviewing; identify underlying root causes that may contribute to deficiencies; understand the proper submittal of the final inspection report and timely follow-up corrective action; and appreciate the importance of the installation management review process. Graduates will develop skills needed to serve as a member of their installation's CCIP and be ready to perform in UEIs. Successful completion of this course fully conforms with the requirements in DODI 4715.17, Environmental Management Systems, AFI 32-7001 Environmental Management, and ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems. This course is the official Air Force EMS lead inspector training class.

PRIMARY AUDIENCE:  Installation EMS Coordinators and personnel selected to review base EMS as lead inspectors. Primary audience includes other installation, AFCEC and MAJCOM (or equivalent) personnel selected as inspectors to support Inspector General activities.
SECONDARY AUDIENCE:  EMS Cross Functional Team members (including Environmental Program Managers and Primary Unit Environmental Coordinators). Secondary audience also includes Installation Environmental Unit chief (Civil Engineering) and Contracting Officer Representatives (COR).
