For new civilian employees without prior DoD experience, the intricacies of the Air Force Civil Engineer community can be difficult to understand. Learning CE structure, culture, and processes can take years, which prevents new civilian employees from maximizing their productivity. Due to this limitation, senior CE leaders asked
The Civil Engineer School at AFIT to create a new
Air Force Civil Engineer Basic Civilian Course (WMGT 100), which will equip new civilian employees with foundational CE competencies. This course is now mandatory for all new CE civilians. The design of the course aligns with the first two weeks of the
Air Force Civil Engineer Basic Course (WMGT 101), which is the initial CE officer skills training. This new, web-based, on-demand course provides an introductory framework to the CE enterprise and serves as a foundation for further education and development.
The course provides students with a basic understanding of CE doctrine, history, capabilities, and related functions. Students learn the responsibilities of each flight within the objective CE squadron, how the CE squadron and its flights interface with other organizations, and how to execute various programs within each of the flights. The course is organized in six main areas: (1) Civil Engineer Organization, (2) Asset Management, (3) Project Management, (4) Resource Management, (5) Energy & Cyber Security, and (6) Electives (where students select their educational pathway to meet their local mission requirements). The course is taught by 20 different experts and comprises about 25 hours of content, worth 2.5 continuing education unit credits. Out of the 25 course hours, 17 consist of required lessons with introductory information. The remaining hours of elective coursework go into greater depth and are chosen by the student or supervisor from various lesson topics.
The WGMT 100 course is now open and available for new student enrollment. More information and student registration is available
